During WWII, Rome was declared a no-bomb zone. One bomb did hit S.Lorenzo, which is technically not in the city. The plaque reads: Give peace, O Lord, in our days. On the 40th anniversary of the bombing of S.Lorenzo, 19 July 1943, in the Holy Year of Redemption 1983-1984.

Note the palm branch (a symbol of victory), the hearts (sumbol of loyalty, devotion, love) and the peacock (symbol of royalty and resurrection)

The other carvings show a writing tablet and stylus, indicating perhaps that the person buried here was a scribe of some sort.
