Israel to Recognize Same-Gender Marriage

n a precedent-setting ruling, the High Court of Justice on Tuesday ruled that five gay couples wedded outside of Israel can be registered as married couples.

A sweeping majority of six justices to one ruled that the civil marriages of five gay couples obtained in Toronto, Canada, can appear as married on the population registry.

This makes for one of two interesting recent dichotomies between U.S. and Israeli public policy. The other one is a universal military service requirement — something right wingers are making a big show of having paroxysms of apoplexy about since Rep. Charlie Rangel brought it up again.

as a toronto homo, I'm going to bask in the reflected glory of this.

we're all used to the end-of-civilisation-as-we-know-it rhetoric that tends to come with these decisions, but the Israeli stuff was particularly fulsome, I thought:

The minister in charge over religious affairs, Yitzhak Cohen (Shas) said "the High Court has sunken in the gates of defilement and has torn out the last mezuzah from its doors.

    my my my!

"The dam that protected the Jewish state has been burst open under the auspices of the High Court, asking for an anti-Jewish deluge clad in black capes," he said.

"We don't have a Jewish state here. We have Sodom and Gomorrah here,"

You know, this is a faaabulous tourism opportunity. Anyone wanna join me in getting black capes and deluging down on Israel?

last year some rabbi foamed at the mouth at pending Pride celebrations and likened the dreddddful homos to rabbits. So of course, bunny ears appeared as the accessory of choice at the pride festivities. Do you spoze black capes have superceded bunny ears, or do you think we should combine the two?

I'm leaning towards an Energiser Bunny mit black cape look, myself.
