RIP Gerald Ford
I think they [same-sex couples] should be treated equally. Period.
–President Gerald Ford, in 2001 interview with Deb Price of the Detroit News
[quoted in Tom Musbach, "Gerald Ford supports federal gay rights", PlanetOut, 29 October 2001.]

I welcome comments -- even dissent -- but I will delete without notice irrelevant, rude, psychotic, or incomprehensible comments, particularly those that I deem homophobic, unless they are amusing. The same goes for commercial comments and trackbacks. Sorry, but it's my blog and my decisions are final.

Yes, and we learn from Bob Woodward today that Ford opposed Bush's Iraq blunder war before many Democrats would come out and say it was a bad idea from the beginning. The more I learn about Ford, the more I suspect he was a closet liberal.

Indeed he did, but only for publication after he died, which doesn't make it a terribly strong criticism of the current administration's war. On the other hand, his remark above about marriage equality was for publication, so perhaps gays and lesbians getting married was already less controversial in 2001 than the invasion of Iraq was to become.
