The Children of Friends
I've had some friends that are actually homosexual. And, I mean, they know where I stand, and they know that I wouldn't have them anywhere near my children.
— Samuel Wurzelbacher / Joe the Plumber, quoted most anywhere
Oddly, Isaac and I have a number of friends who are actually heterosexual, and who actually have children, and who like it when we spend time with their children. Oddly, their children like us, too, and we even enjoy their company. Imagine!
I know that I have a limited imagination and, as an atheist, I don't exhibit nearly the christian love and compassion of such ultra-christians as Sam / Joe, but I can't actually imagine having a "friend" who would express an attitude like his. No doubt that would make both of us happy, me and the never-would-be friend.

I welcome comments -- even dissent -- but I will delete without notice irrelevant, rude, psychotic, or incomprehensible comments, particularly those that I deem homophobic, unless they are amusing. The same goes for commercial comments and trackbacks. Sorry, but it's my blog and my decisions are final.

Wurzelbacher is a schmuck, period. If he had any gay friends, which I doubt, I can't imagine he has them any more, after what he said. He's certainly not some kind of spokesman for christianity.
The only reason the media continue to report what he says is because they've learned they can grab eyes and ears, and generate buzz. When the days comes that the public sees another one of these "Joe the Plumber says . . ." stories and click on by or turn the page without watching, listening or reading, the media will quietly drop him and move on to some other schmuck who's perceived as good for grabbing eyes and generating buzz.

All true. About the only reason I'd bother to quote him is 1) to make my own point; and 2) because every time he opens his mouth it helps to hurry along the sinking of the ship of the stupidly conservative.
Do you think anybody really pays him any attention any more? Hey, maybe he could marry Sara Palin's daughter. That might get everyone involved back into the limelight.

I have a hunch Mama Palin would get out her moose-hunting rifle if she saw Wurzelbacher making moves on her daughter.
Who knows, a stray shot and "up from the ground comes a bubblin' crude," and we might have the makings of a reality/comedy/soap opera show with all the rustic charm of The Beverly Hillbillys crossed with the emotional ups, downs and nauseating twists of All My Children.

Yes, I have to admit that we love it when you and Isaac come and spend time with our whole family. My children love you guys and when they ask questions about your relationship, we answer them honestly — You are two people who love and care for each other and are in a committed relationship just like ours. Thanks for being our friends and friends to our children.

You're welcome, of course, but it's at least half our pleasure, too.
