Gay Marriage or Dick Cheney more Dangerous?
My ability to get a marriage license hurts nobody: Gay marriage is less harmful to straight people than Dick Cheney on a hunting trip.
New York Assembly member Daniel J. O’Donnell [quoted in Robin Finn, "This O’Donnell Picks His Fights in the Legislature", New York Times, 13 July 2007].

Assemblyman O'Donnell obviously assumes all those in Cheney's hunting party were straight, including the good friend who ended up hospitalized. Maybe, maybe not.
It's interesting O'Donnell posited lesser harm than an incident involving unintended, violent injury. Then again, I've been trying to think of a better comparison and nothing is coming to me. I think that's because the whole meme about equal marriage rights for all harming traditional man-woman marriage is so patently bogus.
BTW, if you saw the CNN/Youtube Democratic candidates' forum last night, I'm sure you noticed how positive the audience response was to expressions of support for civil unions, and that the audience reacted even more enthusiastically when Dennis Kucinich voiced unequivocal support for full and equal marriage rights for everyone. This was in South Carolina, I believe.
The times, they are a changin' indeed.
